Punjab continues to battle an intense heatwave as scorching temperatures and hot winds pushed mercury levels higher across the state on Monday. According to the Meteorological Department, the state’s average temperature rose by 2.3 degrees Celsius and is now 3.1 degrees above normal.
Bathinda emerged as the hottest place in Punjab with a blistering temperature of 47°C. Severe heatwave conditions were reported in several districts, making outdoor activities difficult for residents.
The weather department has issued a heatwave alert for Tuesday in districts including Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Mansa and Sangrur.
Officials warned that from Wednesday onward, the heatwave is likely to spread across the entire state. The department has also predicted a further rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Meanwhile, Patiala recorded a maximum temperature of 44°C on Monday, which was 4.5 degrees above normal. The city also experienced severe heatwave conditions during the day.
Authorities have advised people to avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions amid the soaring temperatures.
