A Punjab Roadways bus caught fire on Monday morning near Bhogpur Bus Stand in Jalandhar, triggering panic among passengers. Thanks to the alertness of local residents and the prompt response of the bus staff, all 27 passengers on board were safely evacuated without any injuries.
The bus was travelling from Jalandhar to Dasuya when people standing near the Bhogpur Bus Stand noticed thick smoke emerging from the lower section of the vehicle. Within moments, smoke began entering the passenger compartment, creating panic among those on board.
As passengers rushed to get out, a near-stampede situation developed inside the bus. Women and elderly passengers were also among those travelling. However, the driver, conductor and local residents acted swiftly and helped all 27 passengers disembark safely, one by one.
Soon after the evacuation, the fire spread rapidly through the bus. Fire brigade personnel and local police were immediately informed about the incident. Residents at the scene also attempted to control the flames before emergency teams arrived.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
