Two passengers were injured after a Punjab Roadways bus collided with a milk tanker near Begawali village on the Fazilka-Abohar highway in Punjab. The accident occurred when the bus had stopped on the roadside to drop off passengers and a tanker approaching from the Abohar side rammed into it.
The collision damaged both vehicles, while other passengers escaped unhurt. No fatalities were reported in the incident.
According to Manish Kumar, in-charge of the Fazilka bus stand, the Punjab Roadways bus was travelling from Fazilka to Sri Ganganagar and was carrying around 40 passengers. When the bus stopped near Begawali village to let passengers get off, the milk tanker struck it.
Kumar alleged that the tanker driver was under the influence of alcohol and had approached the bus from the wrong side. However, the allegation has not been confirmed, and the driver's condition will have to be established through an investigation.
Lado Bai, a woman passenger who was injured in the accident, said she was travelling towards Abohar when the collision occurred suddenly near Begawali village. She sustained injuries to her face. The injured passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The tanker driver reportedly told officials that he had suddenly fallen asleep while driving, causing his vehicle to collide with the bus.
Police officer Balvir Singh said the tanker was coming from the Abohar side, while the Punjab Roadways bus was travelling from Fazilka towards Abohar. The two vehicles collided head-on near Begawali village.
Police reached the spot, took steps to restore the smooth flow of traffic and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
