Punjab Government has expanded its public transportation network by inducting five new Super Integral Volvo coach buses for direct connectivity to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema flagged off the new buses on Tuesday, stating that the service will provide safe, comfortable, and affordable travel for NRIs, international passengers, and the general public.

Cheema said the enhanced airport bus service is also expected to reduce the influence of private transport operators on the route while promoting reliable government-run transport services. He added that the Bhagwant Mann-led government is continuously working to modernize Punjab’s public transportation system.

The minister noted that the airport bus service was first launched on June 15, 2022, from Jalandhar Bus Stand. To further strengthen the service, the government is adding a total of 15 new Super Integral coach buses, with the first batch of five now entering operation.

The new buses will run daily from Jalandhar and Ludhiana to IGI Airport on fixed schedules, with return services from Delhi as well. The government has said that passengers will receive world-class travel facilities at highly affordable fares.

Cheema also announced that Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC are collectively adding 696 new buses to their fleets, including ordinary, HVAC air-conditioned, and Super Integral coach buses, to improve the quality and accessibility of public transport services across the state.
