Eligible women across Punjab will start receiving financial assistance from July 1 under the state government's flagship Mukhyamantri mawan dhiyan satkar yojana, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced while reviewing the implementation of the scheme.
The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to strengthen the economic independence of women and ensure that they can lead their lives with dignity and self-respect.
Under the scheme, every eligible woman in Punjab will receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category will be provided ₹1,500 per month. Mann stated that the funds will be transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). He also clarified that women who are already receiving social security pensions will remain eligible for benefits under the scheme.
According to the state government, nearly 97 percent of Punjab’s women are expected to benefit from the initiative. To support its implementation, the government has allocated ₹9,300 crore in the state budget.
Speaking about the significance of the scheme, Mann said that while the financial assistance may not make women wealthy, it will help enhance their sense of dignity and self-reliance. He emphasized that women deserve the highest respect as they are the source of life and play a vital role in society and family welfare.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that strengthening women’s financial independence is essential for improving family well-being, promoting gender equality, and increasing women’s participation in social and economic decision-making processes.
He added that registrations for the scheme have already begun across the state, with lakhs of women enrolling every day to avail themselves of the benefits.
