Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has credited Indian cricket star Virat Kohli for playing a key role in her remarkable comeback after winning the Japan Open Super 750 title. Sindhu ended a nearly two-year title drought with her victory on Saturday, marking a significant milestone after one of the toughest phases of her career.
31-year-old badminton star revealed in a social media post that she sought Kohli's guidance while battling injuries, inconsistent performances, and mental pressure. According to Sindhu, Kohli responded within minutes to her message and met her the very next day. Her husband, Venkata Datta Sai, was also present during the meeting.
Sindhu said Kohli's words transformed her mindset and helped her regain confidence during a difficult period. Reflecting on her journey, she said there were moments when injuries shook her self-belief, but she never stopped trusting herself.
Calling the Japan Open title more than just another trophy, Sindhu said the victory was proof that her journey is far from over and that she remains determined to achieve greater success on the international stage.
