PVS Speaker and Animal Husbandry Minister confer degrees to GADVASU students

Chandigarh, May 6: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairy Development Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar today conferred the degrees to the students of PhD, Masters and Bachelors programmes during the third Convocation at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.

During the ceremony, while S. Rupinder Singh Sodhi, President of the Indian Dairy Association was bestowed upon Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) for his praiseworthy contribution in developing the cooperative sector within the Indian dairy industry, a total of 315 degrees, 102 merit certificates and 17 gold medals were conferred on students who have successfully completed their academic programmes.

Congratulating the students who received degrees after successfully completing the rigorous academic and research programmes in the university, their teachers and parents, Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan exhorted the students to work with honesty and dedication, keeping high targets to achieve fruitful results in life. He encouraged students to render their valuable services to the citizens of the country, invoking them to take up all types of challenges gracefully in their professional life so as to make significant contributions to uplift the livestock sector and, thereby, gearing up for progress of the country. He inspired the house to value their mother language for more impressive results in the professional and social life.

Addressing the gathering, Punjab Cabinet Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar highlighted the contribution of GADVASU in producing knowledgeable, erudite and cultured citizens for the nation through chiseling their intellectual, technical and social skills. He also lauded the contribution of the livestock sector in the socio-economic development of the country and giving an impetus to the overall growth of the agriculture sector. While appreciating the achievements of girl students in academics, he stated that girl must be treated at par with the boys as they are the pillars of the family.

GADVASU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Inderjeet Singh delivered the convocation report and put forth the magnificent achievements of the university. He informed that the university has very extensive state-of-the-art infrastructure with highly talented and proficient faculty to cater to the needs of research, teaching and extension. Currently, 2210 students are enrolled in diploma, undergraduate, masters’ and PhD programmes. The university has been accredited by ICAR, recognized by UGC and has multiple national and international collaborations. He highlighted that the university is currently implementing 74 research projects worth over Rs.14 crores funded by different national agencies. The hospitals and outstations of the university are catering to the needs of farmers round the clock. All the newer tools of communication like MOOCs, YouTube channel, e-Magazine, e-Newsletter, webinars etc. have been adopted by the university.

S. Rupinder Singh Sodhi, President of the Indian Dairy Association, received Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) and thanked the university for conferring a degree on him. He also shared rich and interesting experiences of his life as a professional and highlighted that the livestock sector is as important as the food sector and the former has witnessed remarkable growth in the previous years.

Dr. H.S Banga, Registrar, GADVASU informed that a total of 315 degrees, 102 merit certificates and 17 gold medals were conferred on students who have successfully completed their academic programmes in Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Veterinary Science, Master of Dairy Science & Technology, Master of Fisheries Science, Master of Veterinary Science, Master of Science (Biotechnology), Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Bachelor of Dairy Science & Technology, Bachelor of Fisheries Science and Bachelor of Biotechnology. The Members of Board of Management of GADVASU, officers, faculty, retirees and other dignitaries also graced the occasion.
