A suspected ragging attempt involving junior MBBS students has been reported at the hostel of Government Medical College in Amritsar. However, the junior students informed their family members and the college administration before the alleged incident could take place.

According to college authorities, the incident was reported from E-Block of the hostel. After receiving the information, the hostel warden reached the spot. By the time the warden arrived, eight senior students from the 2025 MBBS batch, who had allegedly gone to the hostel in connection with the ragging attempt, had left the premises.

The college administration subsequently initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter. CCTV footage from cameras installed in the hostel is also being examined as part of the investigation.

Following the initial inquiry, the college administration has suspended all eight students from the 2025 batch for their alleged involvement in the ragging attempt.

Government Medical College Vice Principal Dr JP Attri said a special meeting has been scheduled for October 5 to review all aspects of the case. The meeting will examine the investigation conducted so far, CCTV footage and other available facts.

The administration will decide on further action based on the findings of the inquiry.

College authorities have also made it clear that even an attempt to commit ragging will be treated as serious indiscipline. The investigation into the matter is currently underway.
