Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans in India may have another reason to celebrate, as Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that discussions are underway for Deadpool 4. However, the actor has hinted that the next installment may not be a traditional solo film.
Speaking in a recent interview with Sunday TODAY, Reynolds revealed that he has already written several ideas for the next chapter of the franchise. He said he does not want to make another film with Deadpool as the central character but instead envisions the fan-favourite anti-hero playing a supporting role in a larger team-up movie.
"I've written some ideas, but I don't want Deadpool to be at the centre of another solo film. I think the character works even better in a supporting role as part of a team," Reynolds said, adding that discussions with Marvel Studios are currently in the early stages.
The actor's comments have sparked speculation that Deadpool 4 could feature multiple characters from the X-Men universe, similar to the successful crossover seen in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which starred Reynolds alongside Hugh Jackman.
The Deadpool franchise began in 2016 and quickly became one of Marvel's most popular superhero series, thanks to its irreverent humour, fourth-wall-breaking style, and Reynolds' acclaimed performance. The sequel, Deadpool 2, was released in 2018, followed by Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, which became a major global box office success.
While Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce Deadpool 4, Reynolds' latest remarks have raised expectations that the Merc with a Mouth will return to the big screen in a fresh team-up adventure.
