A case of alleged sacrilege has come to light at a gurdwara in Birewala Jattan village of Punjab's Mansa district, where objectionable and abusive writings were found on several pages of a sacred copy of the Guru Granth Sahib. The incident sparked outrage among members of the sangat, who demanded strict legal action against those responsible.

According to the gurdwara's granthi, Gurvinder Singh, the incident had allegedly occurred several months ago. He was appointed at the gurdwara around two months ago and was informed at the time that an act of sacrilege had already taken place and that the matter had been reported to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Gurvinder Singh said that while inspecting the sacred scripture on Wednesday, he noticed objectionable and abusive words written on some of its pages. He immediately informed the sangat to ensure complete transparency and avoid any suspicion. He also questioned why no action had been taken despite an earlier complaint.

Village sarpanch Rikki Singh said he became aware of the incident only on Wednesday after being informed by the gurdwara committee. He said the committee had already sent a complaint to the SGPC and that a meeting regarding the matter was scheduled. He demanded that those responsible for the alleged sacrilege be identified and punished under the law.

Police have begun an investigation into the incident, while the discovery has triggered widespread anger among local devotees.
