Punjab Government has inspected 13,995 school buses across the state between 2025 and September 2026. Of these, 3,621 buses were issued challans for violating safety regulations, while 31 buses were seized.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said the government was strictly implementing the Safe School Vehicle Policy and that there would be no compromise on the safety of children.

According to official figures, district-level committees inspected 8,325 school buses in 2025. During these inspections, 2,026 buses were challaned and 24 were seized for violations.

From January to September 2026, a special inspection drive covered another 5,670 school buses. The campaign resulted in challans against 1,595 buses and the seizure of seven vehicles for non-compliance with prescribed safety norms.

Dr Baljit Kaur has directed Deputy Commissioners, district-level school vehicle inspection committees and concerned departments to ensure strict enforcement of all provisions of the Safe School Vehicle Policy. She also instructed officials to ensure that deficiencies identified during inspections are rectified without delay.

The minister urged school managements and transport operators to use only those vehicles that meet the prescribed safety standards. She emphasised that compliance with safety regulations was essential to protecting children during their daily commute to and from school.

Appealing to parents, Dr Baljit Kaur asked them to immediately inform the concerned authorities if they notice negligence or any violation of safety rules in school buses.

She reiterated that ensuring a safe journey for every schoolchild was a collective responsibility of the government, school administrations, transport operators and parents.
