Panic gripped the Angadpura locality of Moga on Sunday evening after armed assailants travelling in a Scorpio SUV opened fire on four youths standing outside a house. Two of the victims died during treatment, while the other two remain in critical condition.
According to preliminary information, the attack may have been triggered by an old rivalry. The assailants arrived in a Scorpio without a number plate, questioned the youths about someone and then allegedly opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene.
The victims — Sahil Jindal alias Laddi, Gagan, Raghav and Sukhpreet, all residents of Angadpura locality — were standing outside their house and talking to each other at around 7:15 pm on Sunday when the incident took place.
The sudden burst of gunfire created panic in the area. All four youths sustained serious bullet injuries and collapsed on the ground, while the attackers escaped in their vehicle. Hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed to the spot and helped the victims reach Medicity Super Speciality Hospital for treatment.
Doctors declared Gagan dead upon arrival. Sahil Jindal alias Laddi, who was critically injured, was subsequently shifted to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries late Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Raghav and Sukhpreet remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment in the hospital's intensive care unit.
Police Launch Search Operation
Following the incident, Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal reached the crime scene along with a police team and reviewed the situation. The police examined the spot and seized digital video recorder (DVR) units connected to CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area.
Investigators are examining the footage to trace the movement of the Scorpio SUV, establish the route taken by the attackers and identify those involved in the shooting.
SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said special police teams had been formed to arrest the accused. Raids are being conducted at suspected locations, and the police are investigating the case from multiple angles.
He added that efforts were underway to arrest the accused at the earliest and uncover the circumstances behind the shooting.
