Amritsar has been placed under heightened security ahead of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6, with Punjab Police strengthening surveillance and deployment across the city and surrounding areas.
As part of the security review, Punjab Police Special DGP Praveen Sinha visited Amritsar on Wednesday to assess preparedness and oversee arrangements. He held meetings with officials from various security agencies and issued necessary instructions to the police force deployed on the ground.
Authorities have stated that ensuring the safety of devotees and the general public remains their top priority. A comprehensive security plan has been put in place across the region to maintain law and order during the observance.
According to officials, a total of 11 central paramilitary companies, including units of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed in Amritsar and nearby districts. In addition, more than 2,500 police personnel and nearly 30 senior officers have been assigned to security duties.
Speaking during the review, Special DGP Praveen Sinha said that all security agencies are working in close coordination amid increased religious and political activities in the region. He noted that Amritsar's proximity to the international border makes it a sensitive area, necessitating enhanced vigilance and security measures.
