A 43-year-old Specially abled woman was found murdered inside her house in Faridkot's densely populated Mohalla Janiyan on Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood. The victim, identified as Neetu, was alone at home when the crime took place.
According to police, Neetu's husband, Pradeep Kalra, a government school teacher, had left for work in the morning as usual, while their 17-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son had gone to school. When Pradeep returned home around 2 pm, repeated attempts to ring the doorbell went unanswered.
Sensing that something was wrong, he sought the help of a neighbour. The woman managed to open the door, only to discover Neetu lying in a pool of blood inside a room. She immediately raised an alarm, drawing local residents to the scene.
Family members said Neetu, despite her Specially abled, would always come to the door to receive her husband when he returned from work. Her failure to respond on Monday heightened his suspicion.
According to the family, the victim suffered multiple injuries inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon. They also stated that Neetu had no known personal enmity with anyone and that there were no immediate signs of theft from the house, leaving the motive behind the murder unclear.
Police and forensic experts reached the scene soon after being informed and launched an investigation.
DSP Tarlochan Singh said preliminary findings suggest the murder occurred between 12 noon and 2 pm. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify any suspicious movement. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police said all angles are being thoroughly investigated.
