A speeding Mahindra Thar crashed into a motorcycle near Jubilee Walk in Mohali on late Saturday night, killing one biker on the spot and leaving another critically injured.
According to police, the impact of the collision was so severe that one of the two motorcycle riders died instantly, while the other sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
After hitting the motorcycle, the Thar went out of control, broke through a roadside safety grill, and crashed into a nearby park. The SUV was also extensively damaged in the accident.
Thar was carrying four occupants, including the driver. Two women who were travelling in the vehicle reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police have detained the driver and another occupant for questioning.
Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The injured victim was shifted to a hospital, while the deceased's body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Both damaged vehicles have been seized, and an investigation is underway. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the crash and to trace the two women who fled the scene. Authorities are also investigating their role in the incident.
