Chandigarh residents can now report illegal street vending and encroachments on roads, footpaths, markets and other public spaces directly to the Municipal Corporation through a dedicated WhatsApp helpline.
The MC has launched WhatsApp number 9915762917, allowing citizens to send clear photographs of unauthorised vendors and encroachments for prompt action. Residents must also share the exact location of the issue, mentioning the sector, road name or a nearby landmark.
According to the Municipal Corporation, photographs accompanied by accurate location details will help officials identify the affected areas, verify complaints and deploy the concerned enforcement teams for timely action.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar has appealed to residents to make maximum use of this facility. He said active public participation is essential to keeping the city's public spaces clean, organised and free from encroachments.
He added that with citizens' cooperation, unauthorised occupations on roads, footpaths and in market areas can be identified and addressed more effectively.
The WhatsApp facility will not be restricted to complaints related to illegal vending and encroachments. Residents can also use the helpline to report problems concerning other civic services provided by the Municipal Corporation.
The complaints received through the helpline will be monitored by the concerned officials. They will coordinate with the relevant departments to verify the issues and ensure appropriate action as required.
