A tragic incident has shocked Punjab's Tarn Taran district after two young brothers died under mysterious circumstances in Ranianwala village, prompting a police investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Gurnishan Singh (7) and Gurdan Singh (18 months), sons of Sarjeet Singh, a resident of Ranianwala village.
According to preliminary information, the family consumed a home-cooked meal on the night of July 13. Shortly after dinner, several family members reportedly fell ill. Despite receiving initial medical treatment, the condition of the two children deteriorated, and they were rushed to a hospital.
Gurnishan Singh died before reaching the hospital, while his younger brother, Gurdan Singh, succumbed to treatment a day later. Other affected family members are reported to be in stable condition.
Initial suspicion points to food contamination or the presence of a toxic substance in the meal. However, authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of death.
Police from Chohla Sahib Police Station reached the scene soon after receiving information and began an investigation. Duty Officer ASI Ranjit Singh said the case is being examined from every possible angle.
Police officials stated that while poisoning is suspected, the actual cause of death will only be confirmed after the medical examination and post-mortem reports are received. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
