A disturbing incident involving the safety of schoolchildren was reported from Jalandhar West on Friday morning, when two young children heading to school were run over by an auto-rickshaw. CCTV footage of the accident has also emerged, reportedly capturing the incident.
According to the footage, the two children were walking towards their school when the driver of an auto-rickshaw parked nearby suddenly started the vehicle, bringing both children under its wheels.
The accident triggered panic at the spot, with people rushing to help the injured children. As the children became trapped beneath the auto-rickshaw's tyres, rescuing them proved difficult.
However, local residents acted swiftly and used their presence of mind to tilt the auto-rickshaw, eventually managing to pull both children out safely. The older girl reportedly sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety near schools and the need for greater caution among vehicle drivers, particularly during busy morning hours when children are on their way to school.
