An unidentified man was found dead in the parking area outside Jalandhar Railway Station on Tuesday, prompting an investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP). Preliminary inquiries revealed that the deceased was believed to be a beggar who frequented the area. No identification documents were recovered from his possession.
According to information, people were moving in and out of the railway station as usual when some passersby noticed a man lying in a suspicious condition in the parking area outside the station premises. When he remained motionless for a long time, locals approached him and found that he had already died.
The matter was immediately reported to the GRP. Acting on the information, GRP ASI Balwinder Singh, along with his team, reached the spot and inspected the scene. Police took custody of the body and began questioning local residents and eyewitnesses to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
During the inquiry, locals informed the police that the man was known to roam around the area and survive by begging. However, a search of his belongings failed to yield any identification card or document that could establish his identity.
The body has been shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary, where it will be preserved for 72 hours to allow relatives or acquaintances to come forward and identify him. The deceased's name, address and family details remain unknown.
The GRP has initiated proceedings under Section 174 and further investigation is underway.
