A tragic road accident occurred on Friday morning on the Sirhind National Highway near village Patarsi Kalan in Fatehgarh Sahib, where a Volvo bus collided with a trailer truck, leaving the driver dead and 15 passengers injured.
The bus, which was travelling from Delhi to Katra, rammed into a moving 18-wheeler truck from behind. According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed, triggering panic and chaos at the scene.
The bus driver, identified as Inderjeet Singh from Ferozepur, died on the spot. Most of the passengers on board were reportedly pilgrims heading to the Vaishno Devi shrine.
Police from Mulapur police station, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Jagroop Singh, reached the spot soon after receiving information. With the help of locals, rescue operations were carried out and all injured passengers were pulled out of the damaged bus.
The injured, including Abhijeet Kashyap, Ashoka Kashyap, Vibhuti, Priyanka, Gopinath, Baljeet, Jaweshwar, Rashmi, Babita, Shubha Kumari, Shubham, Shruti Jha, Keshav, and Suhel among others, were rushed to Civil Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib.
Doctors stated that six passengers Abhijeet, Ashoka, Vibhuti, Priyanka, Gopinath, and Baljeet are in critical condition and were referred to a higher medical facility in Chandigarh for advanced treatment. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at the local hospital.
Preliminary police investigation suggests that overspeeding and misjudgment of distance from the heavy vehicle may have led to the accident. However, a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
