Voting for local body elections began on Tuesday across six urban local bodies in Mohali district. A total of 695 candidates are contesting elections in 166 wards, with polling being conducted from 8 AM to 5 PM. The counting of votes will take place on May 29.

The district administration has put extensive security arrangements in place for the elections.

Around 498 polling booths have been set up across the district, including 66 sensitive and 181 highly sensitive booths. Additional police personnel have been deployed at these locations to ensure peaceful voting.

Nearly 4.80 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in the elections. The number of male and female voters in the district is almost equal.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have raised objections over the design of the ballot papers. The party alleged that the presentation of election symbols could create confusion among voters. A complaint regarding the issue has also been submitted to election officials.
