Top Indian sportspersons and sports bodies extend Republic Day greetings, highlighting unity, Constitution and nation-building spirit
As India marked its 77th Republic Day with pride and patriotic fervour, members of the Indian sports fraternity joined the nationwide celebrations by extending warm wishes and messages on social media. Renowned athletes, former sportspersons and leading sports organisations reflected on the importance of the Constitution, unity and the responsibility of contributing to the nation’s progress.
International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah conveyed his Republic Day wishes through an Instagram story, stating that the day is a reminder to celebrate the Constitution that continues to shape India into a stronger and more resilient nation. His message underlined the foundational role of constitutional values in guiding the country forward.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir also shared a strong message on X, emphasising national unity. He stated that while India has one Constitution, it should also have one identity — Indian — highlighting the importance of togetherness beyond differences.
Two-time Olympic medallist pistol shooter Manu Bhaker expressed pride in representing the country, saying she feels honoured to stand for India every day. Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan echoed similar patriotic emotions, calling himself “Dil se Hindustani” while wishing citizens on the occasion.
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav reflected on the nation’s journey since becoming a republic, noting that 77 years of progress have been guided by the Constitution. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) also joined the celebrations, extending greetings on behalf of the Indian football community.
Former World Cup-winning cricketer Yuvraj Singh shared a heartfelt message, stating that his pride for the nation comes from recognising what the country has given him and the responsibility to give back through nation-building efforts. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also extended Republic Day wishes to citizens across the country.
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan highlighted the sacrifices of national heroes and the significance of the Constitution, while Hockey India conveyed a message rooted in tradition, excellence and unity. Former cricketers Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag, along with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, also extended Republic Day greetings, with Sehwag sharing a powerful image symbolising pride in the Tricolour.
