Indian players express excitement before first-ever international match at Baroda venue

Ahead of the opening ODI of the India–New Zealand series, members of the Indian men’s cricket team have praised the world-class facilities and infrastructure at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium. The match, scheduled to be played on Sunday, will mark India’s first-ever international fixture at the newly developed venue in Vadodara, making it a special occasion for players and fans alike.

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill, along with teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prasidh Krishna, shared their thoughts on the stadium and the overall experience at the venue. The players highlighted the quality of the dressing rooms, outfield, pitch conditions, and recovery facilities, calling the stadium one of the most impressive they have played at in recent times.

Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna spoke about the emotional connection he shares with the ground, recalling Karnataka’s successful campaign in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year. He said returning to the venue brought back fond memories, as Karnataka played the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final at the same ground and went on to lift the title. Prasidh added that playing at a venue associated with success always brings added confidence and motivation.

Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was equally impressed and praised the overall infrastructure of the stadium. He specifically mentioned the quality of the outfield, wicket, dressing rooms, and recovery area. Jaiswal also lauded the cricket-loving culture of Vadodara, stating that the passion of local fans creates an exciting atmosphere for players. He expressed his eagerness to take on the challenge against New Zealand in front of enthusiastic supporters.

Indian captain Shubman Gill, who will be leading the side in an ODI series at home for the first time, shared his excitement about both the venue and the upcoming contest. Gill said that spacious and comfortable dressing rooms are an important factor for players, and the BCA Stadium ticks all the right boxes. He also pointed out that most players are coming into the series after strong performances in domestic cricket, which has boosted the team’s confidence.

Gill concluded by saying that the team is in good form, highly motivated, and looking forward to a competitive series against New Zealand, as India prepares for a memorable start at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium.
