In preparation for the grand commemoration of the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday visited Sri Anandpur Sahib to review the extensive security, facilitation, and traffic management arrangements. The mega event, scheduled from November 23 to 25, 2025, is expected to witness the arrival of lakhs of devotees from across the world, making meticulous planning essential.
DGP Yadav said that all supervisory officers have been directed to uphold the highest levels of professionalism, sensitivity, and devotion while managing the large congregation. He was accompanied by Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla and Special DGP Intelligence Praveen Sinha during the inspection.
He informed that a massive deployment of over 8,000 police personnel, led by senior officers, has been ensured to maintain the safety and orderly movement of devotees. The security arrangements are supported by an advanced technological framework, including a high-tech central control room integrated with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), PTZ cameras, facial recognition systems, and surveillance drones installed at all major entry and exit points.
For smoother management, the entire town has been divided into 25 sectors, each having its own sub-control room and help desk. To ensure hassle-free mobility, 24x7 shuttle bus services have been introduced, connecting key venues and tent cities. Smart barricading systems are also being deployed at critical locations to regulate crowd movement efficiently.
To enhance traffic management, the District Police in collaboration with IIT Ropar has introduced real-time digital mapping of parking zones, which provides live updates on occupancy and capacity. This system aims to guide devotees accurately and minimize congestion. Additional traffic coordination teams, intelligent surveillance grids, and strengthened field supervision are already functional.
DGP Yadav added that technology-enabled services like help desks, public convenience facilities, and real-time monitoring dashboards have been established for the devotees. Contingency measures—such as crowd management teams, recovery vans, Mohalla Clinics, and referral hospitals—are also in place to handle emergencies.
Police deployment has been further streamlined using QR code-based briefings, while women police personnel and specialized civil uniform staff are being strategically positioned in high-footfall areas. He also stated that data on local snatchers has been integrated with the facial recognition system to prevent any untoward incident.
Later, the DGP inaugurated a new Auditorium, the renovated GO Mess at Ropar Police Lines, and the Police Station Singh Bhagwantpur in Rupnagar district.
