A four-year-old boy, Nirvair, who fell into a 220-foot-deep borewell in Haryana's Ambala, could not be saved despite a marathon rescue operation lasting nearly 21 hours. His body was recovered from the borewell at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The child was taken to Ambala City Civil Hospital, where a post-mortem examination confirmed that he died due to injuries sustained during the fall and drowning.
Later in the day, Nirvair's body was brought to his residence in Dhanyora village, where family members and villagers paid their final respects. After a brief farewell, he was cremated at the village cremation ground, with his father, Manjit Singh, performing the last rites.
Meanwhile, the Sadar Police Station registered a case against the owner of the agricultural field and the person who had leased the land under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint filed by the victim's family.
According to the family, the borewell had been left uncovered after the motor was removed, and the alleged negligence led to the tragic accident in which the young boy fell into the open pit. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
