Punjab lights up candleligh marches demanding justice of late Officer
Dalits are not safe in the BJP rule : Harbhajan ETO
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President, Aman Arora, on Sunday, visited the bereaved family of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, sharing their profound grief and assuring them of the Punjab Government's complete support and solidarity.
He demanded immediate and stringent action against the accused officers, holding the BJP-led Central Government responsible for fostering an environment where atrocities against Dalits and marginalized sections are escalating alarmingly.
After offering his condolences to the officer's family, Aman Arora expressed outrage at the Haryana government's inaction. "The suicide note of a senior IPS officer names accused officers, yet the government sits on its hands. This is not mere negligence; it is a deliberate protection of the powerful at the cost of a Dalit officer's life," he stated.
Mr Arora powerfully connected the personal tragedy of the Kumar family to a broader national pattern of targeting individuals from humble backgrounds. "When a constitutional authority as high as the Chief Justice of India is not spared, with miscreants attempting to hurl a shoe at him, it sends a clear message that the rule of law is under assault. This culture of impunity, emboldened by the powers at the Centre, is now trickling down, affecting officers and common citizens from weaker sections," he said.
He assured the family that the AAP led Punjab Government would relentlessly pursue justice for them. "This is no longer just about one family. It is about defending the constitutional values of Baba Saheb Dr. BR Ambedkar. We will ensure that the voices of the oppressed are heard, and the accused officers are held accountable," Mr Arora vowed, promising to raise the issue at every forum.
Aman Arora informed that candle marches are being organised across Punjab to demand action against the officers named in the late IPS officer's suicide note. In Amritsar, the candle march led by Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO is being organised from Bhindari Pul to Hall Gate and Jalandhar saw Minister Mohinder Bhagat leading a procession from Corporation Chowk to Love Kush Chowk. Similarly, MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Mann led a march from Sherawala Gate to OM Max Mall in Patiala, while, in Bathinda, MLA Jagroop Singh Gill led the march from Fire Brigade Chowk to Hanuman Chowk. In Ludhiana, MLA Madan Lal Bagga leading a march from Aarti Chowk to Bharat Nagar Chowk, and AAP Chandigarh President DSP Vijay Pal led a procession from Aroma Lights Point Chowk to Kiran Cinema in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan ETO through a press statement issued here today said that the incidents that happened from Rohit Vemula to Y. Puran Kumar has proved that along with the continuous increase in atrocities on Dalit people in the BJP rule, the Dalits who are victims of atrocities do not get justice either.
He said that just as justice is being awaited in the Rohit Vemula case till date, similarly, even after five days of Y Puran Kumar's suicide, the Haryana government has failed to take action against the culprits in this case.
He said that from Rohit Vemula to Y Puran Kumar, there is a history of BJP protecting those responsible for silencing talented Dalit youth like him.
Harbhajan Singh said that the incident of Y Puran Kumar's suicide took place in Chandigarh but the Chandigarh administration has been showing very lax performance in this matter till now. He said that the Chandigarh administration has given another blow to the victim's family by shifting the body of Y Puran Kumar from Sector 16 hospital to PGI without the consent of the victim's family.
He said in a matter releted to Chief Justice B. R. Gavai The Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government has not taken any legal action so far. He said that strict action should be taken against the person who threw the shoe at the Chief Justice and also against those who made comments against the Chief Justice through social media in this matter.
