Balkaur Singh, father of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has once again questioned the progress of the investigation into his son’s murder, alleging that assurances given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah have not translated into justice.

Speaking during a protest in Mansa, where he met Bhim Singh, father of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, Balkaur Singh said he had met Amit Shah after his son’s killing and was assured that justice would be delivered. However, he claimed that the promises made to him had not yielded any concrete results.

Recalling the assurances, Balkaur Singh said discussions had included an investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and an inquiry by a retired judge. He also said he was assured that narco-analysis tests of the accused could be conducted if his doubts were addressed.

According to him, these assurances had failed to bring the outcome he had hoped for.

Urges Jhota’s family to remain cautious

During the protest, Balkaur Singh advised Bhim Singh and his family not to take any major decisions while dealing with the emotional trauma of the situation. He said families who lose loved ones in violent incidents often face severe mental and physical distress, making it difficult to eat, sleep and think clearly.

Drawing from his own experience following Sidhu Moosewala’s murder, he urged the family to proceed carefully and focus on their fight for justice.

Balkaur Singh also highlighted his longstanding association with Parvinder Jhota, saying the two had spent time in jail together in 2008 in connection with a case registered under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. He recalled that whenever his son faced difficulties, he would contact Jhota, who would promptly come forward to help.

Thanks organisations supporting Jhota’s family

Balkaur Singh expressed gratitude to the various organisations supporting Jhota’s family during the protest. He said their collective efforts had helped bring the matter to the government’s attention and had contributed to the Union Home Minister taking notice of the situation.

He stressed that affected families needed concrete action and justice rather than repeated assurances from authorities.

Balkaur Singh also criticised what he described as the tendency of political leaders to view issues through an electoral lens as elections approach.

Claiming that he had been asked to contest elections from Sangrur, he said he had declined the suggestion because he was still grieving the loss of his son.
