A four-year-old girl, Roshni, was crushed to death by a truck near the Focal Point police station in Jalandhar on Wednesday afternoon. Police have arrested the truck driver in connection with the incident.
According to the police, Roshni was walking with her sister when the truck ran over her. The accident occurred while the driver was taking a turn and allegedly failed to notice the child walking on the road.
Following the incident, people present in the area raised an alarm. The girl's father, Pinku, and other family members reached the spot after receiving information about the accident.
Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar said the driver could not see the girl while negotiating the turn, resulting in the fatal accident.
Roshni's family originally belongs to another state and is currently residing in the Transport Nagar area of Jalandhar.
Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The child's body was taken by ambulance to the Civil Hospital and placed in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police are recording statements from the family members and conducting further investigations. Further legal action will be taken according to the findings.
