An incident of firing at a Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) employee was reported in Amritsar after he was allegedly targeted while returning home from duty.
The employee, identified as Sukhchain Singh, is posted at Amritsar Railway Station. After completing his duty, he was on his way to his village, Jagdev Khurd, when three motorcycle-borne youths allegedly intercepted him near a bridge close to the village and opened fire.
One of the bullets struck Sukhchain Singh in his left arm and passed through it, leaving him injured. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment. He survived the attack.
According to Sukhchain Singh, he has no personal enmity with anyone. He said that his brother was murdered in 2019 and expressed suspicion that the current attack could be linked to that old case. He also raised suspicion against his sister-in-law in connection with the attack.
However, the allegation against his sister-in-law is based solely on Sukhchain Singh's suspicion and has not been confirmed by the police.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the attackers and ascertain the motive behind the shooting. Investigators are examining evidence from the scene and other relevant facts. The actual reason behind the attack and the involvement of any suspects will become clear only after the investigation progresses.
