Animal husbandry deptt. organises state level seminar on animal disease control

KAPURTHALA: In a significant step to assist the states in controlling animal diseases under the Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD) scheme to increase the share of animal husbandry in Punjab GDP, a state-level seminar has been organised by the animal husbandry department at PTU, in which more than 250 delegates participated from 11 districts.

Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal inaugurated the seminar which was based on new emerging zoonotic diseases, new emerging livestock diseases, Nutritional management of livestock during diseases and vaccination perspective of new emerging diseases.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner terms the seminar a major step towards awareness amongst people about the diseases of animals, especially milk-producing animals and pets. He said that it would be proved to be a boon for the state.

Urging the veterinary professionals to reach out to the villages for care and management of live stocks, the Deputy Commissioner said that these seminars would be helpful to tap the potential of animal husbandry, poultry etc to increase the share of animal husbandry in the state GDP from 13 to 20%.

Mentioning the importance of animals in daily life, Dr. Rampal Mittal Director animal Husbandary said that care and management of livestock during any disease outbreak was a major challenge not only to save affected animals but also to protect unaffected animals, their vaccination and supplementation of dietary elements to boost up their immune system.

He urged to opt for practical approaches for better livestock feeding and management at modern dairy farms to ensure higher profitability. He said that awareness camps should be organised in villages for farmers to enable them to control the diseases at early stage.

Earlier, Dr. GS Bedi, Deputy Director welcomed the Deputy commissioner, SDM Lal Bishwash Bains and delegates who participated in the seminar.
