Prabhas Mandal, the prime accused in the brutal rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, was killed in a police encounter early Tuesday morning. Mandal had been arrested by the West Bengal Police just a day prior, on Monday.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Baruipur, the incident occurred while the police team was recreating the crime scene. During the reconstruction, Mandal allegedly attempted to snatch a firearm from a police officer and open fire on the team. In self-defense, the police retaliated. Mandal sustained gunshot wounds during the crossfire and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Political Reactions and Post-Mortem Findings

Following the encounter, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, stated on Tuesday that both the state government and the police department are taking all necessary steps to maintain law and order following the horrific crime.

Meanwhile, the preliminary post-mortem report of the 11-year-old victim has confirmed the sheer brutality of the assault. According to the report, the minor’s body bore signs of severe physical injuries, sexual assault, and extreme physical torture before her death.

The gruesome incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Baruipur Police Station in Suryapur Haat, located within the Dhapdhapi-2 Panchayat.
