Fear has gripped Chandigarh after two separate incidents of molestation and intimidation involving women staying in PG accommodations were reported late at night. In both cases, the accused allegedly entered the victims’ rooms, attempted to molest them, threatened them with a knife, and later escaped on a bicycle. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.
The first incident was reported from Sector-16, where a 22-year-old woman from Hoshiarpur, staying in a PG accommodation, told police that an unidentified man entered her room between 2:30 am and 3:00 am while she was asleep. The accused allegedly tried to molest her before fleeing the spot.
The second incident took place in Sector-37, where a 23-year-old woman staying in a PG said an unknown man broke open her room door around 4 am and entered inside. According to the complaint, the accused attempted to molest her and threatened her with a knife when she resisted.
The victim further stated that after she raised an alarm, the accused tried to attack her. The knife reportedly brushed past her face, narrowly missing a serious injury. The accused then escaped from the area on a bicycle.
Police suspect that the same person may be behind both incidents due to the similar pattern of crime. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being scanned, and police teams are gathering information about suspicious men seen roaming on bicycles late at night.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked concern over women’s safety in the city, especially among students and working women living in PGs and rented accommodations. Police officials said special teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
