The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth electricity supply for farmers during the upcoming paddy sowing season. Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has fully prepared a comprehensive plan to provide more than 8 hours of uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers across the state.
He said that agriculture remains the top priority of the state government, and no farmer will face any shortage of electricity during the paddy season. According to the schedule issued by the government, 8 hours of power supply will be implemented from June 1 in districts including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Hoshiarpur.
From June 5, this arrangement will be extended to Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Fazilka districts. Similarly, from June 9 onwards, farmers in Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Moga, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Malerkotla, and SBS Nagar will receive more than 8 hours of daily electricity supply.
The Power Minister further stated that a 24-hour monitoring system has been put in place across Punjab during the paddy transplantation season. Dedicated field teams have been deployed to ensure immediate resolution of any technical faults, transformer issues, or other disruptions.
He also informed that the control rooms and complaint redressal systems have been strengthened so that farmers’ issues can be addressed without delay. PSPCL has already completed necessary maintenance work of transmission lines, transformers, and other infrastructure to avoid disruptions during peak demand.
Sond appealed to farmers to use electricity judiciously and follow the scheduled supply plan. He assured that the Bhagwant Mann Government remains fully committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring a smooth and successful paddy season across Punjab.
