In a major security operation ahead of Diwali, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered a drone along with a consignment of weapons from agricultural fields near the India-Pakistan border in Rana Panj Garay village of Ferozepur district, foiling a suspected criminal conspiracy.

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Mohali, has registered an FIR against unidentified persons and launched an investigation to trace the network behind the suspected cross-border weapons delivery.

According to police, the drone was recovered on November 5 and identified as a DJI Matrice 400. The recovery also included two .30-bore pistols manufactured by Starmark, four magazines and 50 cartridges of the same bore.

Based on the statement of ASI Dildar Singh, a case has been registered under Sections 26, 27 and 30 of the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, along with Section 25 of the Arms Act.

Investigating officer ASI Dildar Singh said preliminary investigations suggest that the weapons were sent from across the border using a drone. Officials are now trying to establish who was supposed to receive the consignment and identify the network involved in the operation.

ANTF is investigating the use of the drone, the identity of those who sent the weapons and the local contacts who were expected to collect them. Investigators are also examining whether the weapons were intended for a criminal operation or were to be delivered to a gang.

No arrests have been made in the case so far.
