To manage the growing passenger rush during the festive season, the Railways has announced 15 pairs of special trains across Punjab. Extra coaches have also been kept on standby, while additional trains may be introduced depending on passenger demand.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sanjeev Kumar said control rooms have been set up at all major stations in the Ferozepur Division to monitor the rush and ensure smooth passenger movement.
During an inspection of Jalandhar City Railway Station, he said a temporary waiting area spread over 400 square metres has been created. Medical teams and help desks have also been deployed, while additional ticket counters will be opened if required. Passengers can also use the UTS app for ticket booking.
The DRM reviewed cleanliness and seating arrangements and directed officials to organise parcels lying scattered on platforms to prevent inconvenience to passengers.
Regarding the recent fire incident involving a train travelling towards Jalpaiguri near Rajpura, he said the investigation is underway and the cause of the fire cannot be confirmed at this stage.
