Claims of ₹500–₹1500 fuel limits declared false; UT Administration urges residents not to panic
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has issued a strong clarification dismissing rumours about “temporary fuel rationing” across petrol pumps in the city. The misleading claims, widely circulated on social media and messaging platforms, suggested that two-wheeler owners would be restricted to fuel worth ₹500, while four-wheeler owners would be limited to ₹1500 due to alleged supply constraints.
Taking serious note of the situation, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chandigarh categorically refuted these claims, calling them completely baseless and untrue. Officials emphasized that there is no such directive in place and no restriction has been imposed on fuel purchases in the city.
The administration further reassured the public that Chandigarh currently has sufficient fuel stocks and supply chains are functioning smoothly. Authorities clarified that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel at any fuel station, and residents can continue to purchase fuel as per their regular requirements without any limitations.
Highlighting the dangers of misinformation, the DC urged citizens not to believe or forward unverified news, especially on social media platforms. “Such rumours can create unnecessary panic and disrupt normal public life. People are advised to rely only on official sources for accurate information,” the statement said.
Officials also warned that strict action may be taken against individuals or groups found responsible for spreading fake news and creating confusion among the public. Cyber monitoring teams are reportedly keeping a close watch on such activities to prevent further circulation of misleading information.
The Chandigarh Administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and public trust, assuring residents that any important updates regarding essential supplies would be communicated through official channels.
In the meantime, citizens have been advised to remain calm and avoid panic buying, as the fuel supply situation in Chandigarh remains stable and well under control.
