A sudden flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the Kachrang stream near Bhawanagar in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district late Tuesday night caused significant damage to local infrastructure. The powerful surge of water swept away a pedestrian bridge and severely damaged several drinking water pipelines in the area.
According to officials, the water level in the Kachrang stream rose rapidly after the cloudburst, turning the normally calm watercourse into a raging torrent. The strong current washed away the footbridge and disrupted vital drinking water supply lines laid across the region.
The flash flood also partially damaged a drinking water storage tank belonging to the Jal Shakti Department, affecting local water infrastructure. Authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage and restoration work is expected to begin soon.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Kachrang village is located at a safe distance from the stream, preventing any direct impact on residential areas. However, the sudden disaster has created fear and concern among local residents, who witnessed the destructive force of the floodwaters.
