Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a major initiative for village heads across the state, declaring that all sarpanches in Punjab will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹10,000 starting August 15.

The announcement was made during a Sarpanch Milni programme held in Bathinda. The Chief Minister said the decision was taken in recognition of the crucial role sarpanches play in village development and local administration. The benefit will be extended to all sarpanches across Punjab.

Sharing the decision in a social media post, Mann described it as a “major decision” aimed at strengthening grassroots democracy. He stated that panchayats are the first step of democracy and that sarpanches work tirelessly day and night for the welfare of their villages.

Chief Minister said the monthly honorarium would help sarpanches support their families while enabling them to focus more effectively on developmental work. He expressed confidence that stronger village governance would accelerate rural progress and contribute to Punjab’s overall growth.

“Villages prosper, Punjab prospers,” Mann said, reiterating his government's commitment to serving the people and promoting development at the grassroots level.
