In a major organisational overhaul ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress on Wednesday restructured its Punjab unit by appointing chairpersons, co-chairpersons and working presidents for key election committees with immediate effect.
The appointments were approved by the Congress high command and announced in an official statement issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. The move is aimed at strengthening the party's election machinery and accelerating preparations for the crucial state polls.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been appointed Chairperson of the Campaign Committee, which will lead the party's election campaign across the state.
The Election Management and Coordination Committee will be headed by Vijay Inder Singla, while Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been named Chairperson of the Core Committee. Dr. Amar Singh will head the Manifesto Committee.
The Congress has retained Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and Pratap Singh Bajwa as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), signalling continuity in the party's top state leadership.
To strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level, the party has appointed Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Raj Kumar Verka, and Sangat Singh Gilzian as Working Presidents of the PPCC.
The Campaign Committee will be assisted by co-chairpersons Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Rana Gurjeet Singh, and Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi.
For the Election Management and Coordination Committee, the party has named O.P. Soni, Razia Sultana, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Angad Singh Saini, and Bharat Bhushan Ashu as co-chairpersons.
The Manifesto Committee will have Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Pargat Singh, Hardial Singh Kamboj, and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria as co-chairpersons.
The comprehensive reshuffle reflects the Congress leadership's strategy to unite senior leaders, strengthen organisational coordination, and intensify its campaign as the party gears up for the Punjab Assembly elections.
