The Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) organized a two-day hands-on workshop titled “Build a Nest: Save the Earth” on April 28–29, 2026, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and biodiversity conservation among young minds. The workshop was held at the Aryabhata Academic Block by the Department of Environmental Science and Technology.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology under the Environmental Education Programme and Mission LiFE, with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari attended the event as Chief Guest and Patron.
A total of 232 participants, including university students and children from various schools such as Government Senior Secondary School, Jhumba, and Shri Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Balluana, took part in the workshop. The event provided a platform to blend education with practical environmental responsibility.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Tiwari emphasized the responsibility of humans to protect biodiversity and encouraged small but meaningful actions like building bird nests to support ecological balance. He also stressed the importance of passing such awareness to future generations.
The workshop featured practical sessions conducted by Manoj Lila Bhatt from Ecoroot Foundation, who demonstrated bird-friendly nest-making techniques and highlighted the role of community participation in conservation efforts.
Earlier, Prof. Yogalakshmi KN, Convener of the workshop, said the initiative aimed to develop ecological consciousness among youth. Prof. Sunil Mittal also urged participants to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and focus on groundwater conservation.
Prof. Vinod K. Garg, Head of the Department, concluded the program by thanking participants and noted that the workshop successfully combined environmental education with practical learning, encouraging students to actively contribute towards sustainability and nature conservation.
