Ranked 251–300 globally in Medicine & Health, scores 85.2 in Research Quality
Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) has achieved a major milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026 by securing a notable global position in the Medicine & Health category. The university has been placed in the 251–300 global rank band in this subject and has received an excellent score of 85.2 in the Research Quality parameter, reflecting its strong research performance among the ranked higher education institutions worldwide.
Under the subject-based global rankings, CU Punjab has also secured a position in the 401–500 global rank band in Physical Sciences and the 601–800 global rank band in Life Sciences. Overall, the university has maintained its solid international standing in the THE World University Rankings 2026, being placed in the 601–800 global rank band in the overall rankings as well.
In the Medicine & Health category, apart from CU Punjab, Saveetha Institute of Health Sciences is the only other Indian institution to be placed in the 251–300 global rank band. This achievement highlights CU Punjab’s growing influence in medical and health sciences education and research.
By securing a position in the 401–500 rank band in the Physical Sciences World University Rankings 2026, CU Punjab has entered an exclusive group where only seven other Indian higher education institutions are ranked among the global top 500. Similarly, in Life Sciences, with a 601–800 rank band, CU Punjab is among the top 28 Indian institutions ranked in the world’s top 800. In this category, Banaras Hindu University and the Indian Institute of Science lead Indian institutions, being placed in the 201–250 global rank band.
Welcoming the rankings, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari said that CU Punjab’s consistent progress in research output and citation impact reflects its robust and high-quality research ecosystem, which has been recognized by the prestigious THE Rankings 2026. He added that this achievement is the result of continuous and collective efforts of the university’s faculty, researchers, students and all stakeholders, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to excellence in higher education and research.
CU Punjab’s inclusion in leading global rank bands in key areas such as Medicine & Health, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences in the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026 stands as strong evidence of the university’s rising reputation, research excellence, and dedication to promoting quality higher education and impactful research at the global level.
