Punjab Newsline, Bathinda-
To mark the beginning of the new academic session, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CU Punjab) organized a special faculty interaction session focused on advancing teaching and learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the values of the Indian Knowledge System. During the session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari addressed faculty members, urging them to cultivate inquisitiveness, creativity, and a research-oriented mindset among students for their holistic development.
In his inspiring address, Prof. Tiwari lauded the dedicated efforts of the faculty and research scholars, which have enabled the university to surpass an H-index of 110—an impressive milestone for an institution in its formative years. He urged faculty members to adopt a collaborative approach and engage in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research to enhance the university’s output in terms of patents, funded projects, and publications. He emphasized that research should not only focus on publishing in top international journals but also contribute to fostering entrepreneurship among youth.
Prof. Tiwari emphasized the adoption of innovative teaching methodologies and assessment strategies that stimulate curiosity and higher-order thinking. He advocated for creating a learner-centric ecosystem and encouraged faculty to go beyond conventional classrooms by integrating tools like WhatsApp discussion forums, project-based learning, blended learning models, and formative evaluations to enhance engagement and outcomes.
Highlighting the significance of skill development, Prof. Tiwari stated that it is a vital component of the curriculum that equips learners to contribute meaningfully to national development. He asserted that an Outcome-Based Curriculum is truly effective only when Graduate Attributes, Programme and Course Learning Outcomes, transaction delivery methods, and assessment techniques are designed to elevate learners across the six cognitive levels: Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, and Create.
Sharing the university’s vision for expansion, Prof. Tiwari expressed his aspiration to provide enhanced learning opportunities for the youth of Punjab and the nation. He encouraged faculty members to strive towards placing the university among the top 50 higher educational institutions in upcoming NIRF rankings and to restore Punjab’s historical glory in education, reminiscent of the ancient Takshashila University.
Following the Vice-Chancellor’s address, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiran Hazarika urged faculty members to explore the best practices of the Gurukul system, understand their relevance in the modern context, and identify innovative ways to apply them in fostering students’ holistic development. He emphasized the importance of the four foundational pillars of education—Learning to Know, Learning to Do, Learning to Be, and Learning to Live Together—as essential principles for promoting holistic and inclusive learning and for nurturing a harmonious campus environment.
The event was attended by Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, and faculty members. The session was received with great enthusiasm, leaving participants motivated to elevate academic excellence and student-centered education at the university.
