CBI Arrests Officer, Punjab Govt Suspends Him, Over 50 Property Documents Recovered
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of the Punjab Police has been suspended by the state government following serious corruption allegations. According to an official order from the Home Department, the suspension is based on an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which accuses Bhullar of accepting bribes and involvement in suspicious financial transactions.
The CBI recently arrested Bhullar on charges of accepting bribes from a scrap dealer in Fatehgarh Sahib. The agency alleges that Bhullar initially took ₹8 lakh in bribe and later demanded monthly payments under the guise of “service charges.”
Subsequent raids conducted by the CBI at Bhullar’s residences in Chandigarh, Rupnagar, and Ludhiana led to the recovery of around 7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold, luxury foreign watches, bottles of expensive liquor, and documents related to more than 50 properties.
Following his arrest, Bhullar was produced in court and has been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The Punjab government has made it clear that he will remain removed from all official duties until the investigation is completed.
Bhullar is a 2009-batch IPS officer and was recently serving as DIG of the Rupnagar Range. His arrest and subsequent suspension have caused a stir within the state police department. The swift action by the government sends a strong message that there will be zero tolerance for corruption at any level.
