A 24-year-old doctor was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Dr. Yogesh, a postgraduate junior resident (JR) working in the Department of General Medicine.
According to hospital sources, Dr. Yogesh had entered a washroom located in the Trauma Centre of the hospital but did not return for a long time. Concerned colleagues and hospital staff repeatedly knocked on the door and attempted to contact him, but received no response from inside.
When the door remained locked for an extended period, it was forcibly opened. Dr. Yogesh was found unconscious inside the washroom. He was immediately rushed for medical treatment within the hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
The incident triggered panic within the hospital premises. Following the information, Chandigarh Police from Sector 34 police station and a forensic team reached the spot and began an investigation.
Sources said that potassium chloride injection vials were recovered from the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that the doctor may have administered an injection to himself, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death.
The forensic team inspected the washroom and surrounding area, collected evidence, and conducted videography of the scene. Police officials stated that all possible angles are being examined and that the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination and forensic reports.
Further investigation is underway.
