A 70-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death while attempting to mediate a long-standing land dispute in a village in Ludhiana district. The deceased has been identified as Savinder Singh alias Binder, brother of a former village sarpanch. Police have registered a murder case and launched a search for the accused.

According to the statement given to police by the victim's wife, Paramjit Kaur, the incident took place on June 23 during an ongoing land dispute in the village. Savinder Singh had gone to the spot along with his acquaintance Keval Singh and his son Golu to help settle a property-related conflict involving Keval Singh’s brother Megha and his family.

Paramjit Kaur, who was present at the scene, said that while her husband was trying to calm both parties and resolve the dispute peacefully, a group of men allegedly attacked him with deadly weapons. The accused have been identified as Megh Singh, his son Golu, the son of Gopi Pandit, and four unidentified individuals.

She alleged that the attackers lifted Savinder Singh and hurled him to the ground with force, causing fatal injuries. Preliminary reports further suggest that during the clash, a youth identified as Gopi allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Savinder Singh, leaving him critically injured. He collapsed on the spot, and the accused fled immediately after the attack.

Police have registered an FIR under murder and other serious charges against the named accused and unidentified suspects. The victim’s post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today.

The investigation has been assigned to Sub-Inspector Pradeep Singh. Multiple police teams have been deployed to conduct raids at possible hideouts of the accused. Officials said efforts are underway to arrest all those involved in the crime at the earliest.
