Farmer organizations give ultimatum to Punjab government, demand for action against these Corrupt officials

Farmer organizations say that the corrupt officials of these institutions are behind the continuous losses being recorded in the milk plants, sugar mills, co-operative and land mortgage banks including cooperative societies of Punjab. Regarding this issue, the leader of the farmer organization Bharatiya Kisan Union, Balbir Singh Rajewal and General Secretary Parminder Singh Chalaki, during a press conference in Chandigarh, revealed that these societies are continuously running in losses and private companies are taking advantage of it. Farmer leaders gave an ultimatum to the government that if the government does not take action within a month against the corrupt officials who are taking these societies to losses, then the organization will be forced to take a stand.

Farmer leaders said that many cooperative societies of Punjab are in loss. A delegation of the farmer organization has also put this matter before the Registrar of Cooperative Societies of Punjab. The situation is such that all the cooperative milk plants are on the verge of closure due to corruption. Out of 88 cooperative banks in Punjab, 65 are such that are bearing losses. 9 cooperative milk plants in the state are in loss. Among these, Gurdaspur is running at a loss of 65 crores, Jalandhar 2.5 crores, Hoshiarpur 7 crores, Bathinda 15.5, Sangrur 49 crores, Patiala 9.5 crores, Fazilka 11 crores, Bassi Pathana 25 crores and Faridkot 10 crores. Only the plants of Mohali, Ludhiana and Amritsar are in profit.

The farmers' organizations alleged that 83000 trays of Mohali plants did not reach the plants and milk worth 5 crores is also missing from them. A scam of 1.50 crores was done in the milk plant in Chandigarh in connivance with the distributors, but no investigation was done. According to the group, scams have also come to light in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur.
