Farmers to receive additional Rs. 50 per quintal on millet procured by state agencies

Rs. 575 per quintal to be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts under ‘Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana’

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-

In the interest of farmers, the Haryana Government has decided to increase the procurement price of millet being purchased by procurement agencies in the state by Rs. 50 per quintal. Millet will now be procured at Rs. 2,200 per quintal and Rs. 575 per quintal will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts under the ‘Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana’.

With this decision, farmers will receive a total payment of Rs.2,775 per quintal for millet procured by the government, matching the Minimum Support Price (MSP) fixed by the Government of India.

Sharing information in this regard a spokesperson of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said that earlier the procurement price was Rs. 2,150 per quintal, and Rs. 625 per quintal was transferred to farmers' accounts, resulting in the state's farmers receiving the MSP set by the Government of India.

The spokesperson further informed that after reviewing the market rates of millet and keeping the farmers’ interest in mind, this decision has been taken.

If private traders purchase millet from farmers in the state through the e-Kharid system at a rate higher than Rs. 2,200 per quintal, the government will still pay farmers Rs. 575 per quintal under the ‘Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana’. In such cases, farmers will benefit by receiving an amount higher than the MSP fixed by the Government of India, the spokesperson added.

Notably, to benefit farmers, the state government has already advanced the procurement of millet during the Kharif season 2025-26, which was to start from October 1, and has been started from September 23. A total of 92 mandis/procurement centres have been set up for millet procurement across the state. The procurement of millet in the state is being done by HAFED and Haryana State Warehousing Corporation procurement agencies.

The spokesperson also said that this year, 5,06,313 farmers in the state have registered themselves for millet procurement on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal’.
