Punjab Newsline, Sri Anandpur Sahib-

Addressing the historic special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha convened at the Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial in Sri Anandpur Sahib, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema paid glowing tributes to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on the occasion of his 350th martyrdom anniversary.

Speaking at the venue dedicated to ‘Rangretta Guru Ka Beta,’ the Finance Minister described the supreme sacrifice of the Ninth Guru as unparalleled in the history of mankind, emphasizing that Guru Sahib sacrificed his life to protect the religion and human rights of others.

In his address to the House, Cheema reflected on the unique lineage of sacrifice within the Sikh history, recalling the martyrdom of four generations starting from Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, followed by Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Mata Gujri Ji, and the four Sahibzade. He said that he has yet to read any other history in the world where such immense sacrifices were made to preach peace, unite people, and uphold the respect of all religions. He said that the Gurus stood as a shield against tyranny, offering a message of universal brotherhood that continues to guide humanity today.

Transitioning to the current national scenario, the Finance Minister expressed deep concern over the rising tide of hatred and the erosion of democratic principles in various parts of the country. Citing references made by other speakers regarding violence in Manipur and Uttar Pradesh, he highlighted the prevalence of caste-based atrocities.

Cheema asserted that Punjab is also being systematically targeted, citing attempts to undermine the state's agriculture, education system, and river waters, alongside recent challenges to Punjab’s claim over its capital, Chandigarh. However, he affirmed that the three crore people of Punjab, following the teachings of the Gurus, remain committed to safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation and will fight resolutely for the state's rights.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister lauded CM Mann for honoring the legacy of Bhai Jaita Ji not just through symbolic gestures but through legislative action. He highlighted the significance of the Punjab Law Officers Bill introduced by the AAP government, which ensures representation for marginalized communities in the High Court, a step he said had not been taken in the last 75 years. Cheema also expressed pride that the session was being held at the memorial of Bhai Jaita Ji, giving due honor to the brave warriors who stood firm with the Gurus.

Concluding his speech, Cheema thanked the Speaker and the Chief Minister for the historic initiative of holding the Assembly session on this sacred land. He remarked that the entire world is watching this session and witnessing the deep respect the current Punjab Government holds for the Gurus and their devoted companions, including Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dyala Ji.
