Four former Congress ministers of Punjab join BJP

CHANDIGARH: In a big jolt to Congress party in Punjab when half a dozen senior Congress leaders including four former ministers deserted the party and joined BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah here today.

The four ministers who joined BJP included former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Social welfare minister Raj Kumar Verka and tenchnical education minister Sunder Sham Arora. Atleast three of them face corruption allegations and even allegedly involved in illegal sand mining and liquor trade.

Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu who is brother of Balbir Singh Sidhu had also joined BJP. The Congress leaders in the morning held a meeting with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Delhi BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Sunil Jakhar.

Earlier former PPCC president Sunil Jakhar had joined BJP. Two former Congress MLAs Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa and Rana Gurmeet Sodhi had joined BJP before the assembly elections. All of them remained the loyalists of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Captain had floated a different party Punjab Lok Congress. He ha contested assembly elections in alliance with BJP but all his candidates lost their deposits.

The exodus of so many Congress leaders from the party is also setback for the newsly appointed PPCC president Amarinder Singh Raj Warring. He has failed to keep his flock together.
