Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, June 6 –

Haryana Police has cracked down on a cybercrime racket targeting job aspirants through a fake HSSC website. The CM Nayab Singh Saini’s clear direction to act without delay ensured that a dangerous racket was neutralized.

Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Dr. Sumita Misra, informed that the mastermind behind the scam, who created and operated the fraudulent portal, has been arrested from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.  A total of six accused are currently in police custody which include 4 suspects from Gorakhpur, 1 from Kurukshetra and 1 from Fatehabad.

Additional Chief Secretary, Dr. Sumita Misra informed that the gang had set up a fake website – https://onetimeregn.examinationservices.in – designed to closely mimic the official portal of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) for CET 2025 registration (https://onetimeregn.haryana.gov.in). The site was hosted on a third-party domain and was collecting money from unsuspecting candidates via QR codes in the name of registration fees.

She informed that as soon as the scam was detected, HSSC filed a formal complaint at Sector-5 Police Station, Panchkula. The matter was taken up on top priority, and under the direct supervision of Police Commissioner, Sh. Sibash kabiraj, the cyber team responded swiftly. The fake website was immediately removed from Google and the QR code was also deactivated to prevent further exploitation of candidates.

Dr. Sumita Misra, commended the prompt action taken by the police. This case highlights the proactive approach of the Haryana administration in tackling cybercrime, She added.

She further stated that in order to intensify the investigation, the Cyber Crime Police Station formed three special teams. So far, four individuals have been arrested from Gorakhpur, one from Kurukshetra, and one from Fatehabad. Mobile phones, bank account details, and other digital evidence are being examined thoroughly. According to cyber experts, about 77 candidates were duped of approximately Rs. 22,530 through this scam.

DCP Srishti Gupta, who is leading the investigation, issued a clear warning: “We advise all candidates to use only official websites with a ‘.gov.in’ domain and avoid making payments through QR codes or UPI IDs. Anyone caught exploiting the aspirations of our youth will face strict legal consequences.”

She added, “If any candidate comes across suspicious links or payment requests, they should immediately report the matter to the nearest police station or the cyber crime helpline.”
